Family Meal: Community Responses to Crisis

This is a new Advaya interview series exploring community responses to crisis, how we come together in solidarity and support.

Today we spoke to Family Meal a charitable organisation set up amidst the COVID-19 crisis to aid in providing food for NHS workers on the front line and those having a hard time providing for themselves. Please donate to support their brilliant work and if you live in London you can go and volunteer in the kitchens! More info here: https://familymeal.org.uk/

In the restaurant industry, a Family Meal is a meal provided, free of charge, to the family of chefs, cooks, servers, runners and bartenders that they interact with on a daily basis. Now they want to extend a family meal to those most affected by the current COVID-19 crisis.

They are currently working with charities Food 4 Heroes and The Felix Project to provide healthy, nutritious meals prepared in a professional kitchen by seasoned industry professionals. They have also supported the London Ambulance Service and other institutions directly.

Due to the generosity of the Little Door Company, who have allowed us them use of their kitchens during this lockdown period, they have the infrastructure in place to provide over 600 meals per day to those in need.

In only two weeks of operation, they have already provided over 13,000 meals to the heroes in the NHS and the underprivileged.
