Mark Dubois

Mark has long been a leader in river conservation, first capturing headlines in 1979 chaining himself to the bedrock of the Stanislaus River Canyon in the USA. He is the co-founder of Friends of the River and the International Rivers Network.

Mark Dubois began as an environmental activist, initially focusing on saving rivers and has worked to mobilise and engage citizens globally for a vibrant future. He co-founded Friends of the River to fight the flooding of the Stanislaus River and canyon by the New Melones Dam. He reached national fame when he chained himself to a rock on the banks of the river to prevent the flooding of the river.
